In their own words

The YEIOWEB aims to solve a multitude of problems faced by small retail shop owners and their customers in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape. Problems faced by retail shop owners: 1. Managing sales and stock data for small retail shop owners are a time-consuming complex process. Today’s business needs a real-time solution that can analyze their sales and stocks, and help them make critical business decisions in real-time. In absence of these business data, small retail shop owners make poor business decisions which result in investment in stagnant stocks, being unprepared for the upcoming sales boom, and being unaware of customer sales behavior, overall resulting in making poor sales and stock decisions, resulting in monetary loss or at the least losing important monetary opportunities. 2. Current solutions to the problem would require these shop owners to buy expensive computer systems, software, and other hardware. Not only these they would need to hire or rent a professional to manage these systems regularly on their behalf. The business owner after these upgrades would need to additionally focus on the functioning of these peripherals instead of managing their business. Their entire system fails if any of these closely interlinked systems break. 3. Losing loyal customers even though the shop owner had the most relevant offering for the customer. The reason for losing a loyal customer can be varying, but some which are not easy to resolve are reasons like a new local competitive store have emerged which is near to customer location. Or it could be because of competitive online stores. 4. If these shop owners resort to selling online via e-commerce aggregators, they lose their business branding in the process. Their uniqueness is overshadowed or dissolved under the shadow of these e-commerce aggregators. Instead, they end up doing the branding for this e-commerce operator rather than for their own business, even after sharing a percentage of their profits with them! Also to let one’s offering precede other sellers on these platforms, shop owners need to pay hefty amounts to improve their visibility ranking. 5. A shopkeeper is restricted by the e-commerce store facilitator by enforcing their own custom e-commerce software solution. The shop owner who has created a customer base from one app can’t change to another app that easily. This is called as Vendor locking. 6. Businesses do needs to modify their offering rapidly as per the current market trends and should have a real-time medium to communicate new offerings to their loyal customers. Regular means of advertising like pamphlets and billboards are time-consuming and expensive. 7. Scaling their business infrastructure to more customer require special expertise and is again time-consuming. 8. If these shop owners do resort to mobile apps, they need to convenience their customers to keep them installed. 9. With social media being a crucial aspect of modern-day marketing, it is important for businesses to have a strong social media presence. 10. Communication with the customer, managing an online store and doing offline sales, and managing social media currently requires different apps, hardware, and systems. Managing all these divert shop owners from their business. Problems faced by customers: 1. The customer needs to install/uninstall/upgrade separate applications for each of these requirements: Each online store, messaging, and social media. 2. Customers need to scrutinize each one of these installed applications for privacy and security concerns. 3. Different contexts switch from the user interface of one store to another. 4. The plethora of notifications from each of these separate applications with its own individual updates and offers. 5. Restriction of sticking to a limited solution to each of these requirements: social media, messaging, and online shopping.
