Islamic University of Science and Technology is a UGC recognized state university in the UT of J&K. Though being primarily a Science and Technology University, it has the emergence of a strong footprint in other domains of knowledge like Business Studies, Humanities & Social Sciences, Language and literature, Health Sciences etc. As a result, it is ideally placed to provide a blend of multidisciplinary education well a tuned to the philosophy of NEP2020 policy. Its performance has been validated and accredited by NIRF, ARIIA rankings and a world bank aided project. It is making a rapid transition from being an academic institution into a research and innovation institution focusing on twin themes of Make in India and skill India. In this context, IUST has established a “Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development”, (CIED) as a Section-8 Company (CIED-IUST FOUNDATION), with a vision to promote innovation, start-up culture and entrepreneurship among the youth in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir to counter the challenge of unemployment. The Centre is backed-up by the support of 7 key engineering and technology departments specializing in teaching, conducting research and imparting skills in major disruptive technologies like AI, IoT, Robotics, Cloud, Block Chain, Information Security, 3D Printing, manufacturing technology, PV based energy systems, Molecular Biology, efficient construction technologies etc. In a short span of time, it has developed an enabling ecosystem for innovation, entrepreneurship and IPR resulting in number of products, processes and 17 patents. Industry tie-up with over 2000 units through their representative bodies is being leveraged to foster entrepreneurship through proper mentoring. IUST has made a modest beginning by identifying and registering 15 incubates as potential start-ups in CIED with hand-holding of highly qualified faculty and industry professionals.
