ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Kozhikode is a premier Institute engaged in research and fostering innovation in spices. The Institute had developed high yielding and high-quality spice varieties and sustainable production and protection systems over the past few decades. The institute has the state-of-art laboratory facilities to carry out advanced research, a well-established Agricultural Technology Information Centre (ATIC) and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) for technology dissemination, well established linkages with service providers, farmer groups, funding agencies and all other necessary paraphernalia including a well-established quality control facility to qualify as a nodal agency for technology transfer and entrepreneurship development in spice production and processing. The institute is supported with Prioritization, Monitoring and Evaluation Cell (PME), Institute Technology Management -Business Planning and Development (ITM-BPD) Unit, All India Coordinated Research Project on Spices (AICRPS) etc. The institute also host various other facilities such as Agriculture Technology Information Centre (ATIC), Bioinformatics Centre and NIC for spices, Network project on high value compounds and the Indian Society for Spices. The project advisory board committee is constituted for overall governance, management and coordination of project goals with Director as chairman and constituted of experts from IISR, Spice industry, Spices Board, District Industries Centre, Farmer groups/SHG, official from banking sector etc. Vision: To serve the spice growers by conducting goal ‐directed, peer ‐ reviewed research and educating future generation to be science literate. Our Institute seamlessly integrates research, education and global networking into programs, products and services. The Agribusiness Centre was established in 2011 at the Institute with the assistance of the NAIP funding. The ABI is hence functioning as a nodal center which coordinates technology commercialization, business development, providing handholding support to startups and entrepreneurs for harnessing commercial potential of technologies. ICAR-IISR proposes to scale up the functioning of existing Agribusiness Incubator with the support of National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India to broaden and strengthen its sphere of activity to benefit maximum stakeholders in a sustainable manner.
