In their own words
AccelUAV – Reinventing defence and transforming warfareFounded in 2021 by Animi Gourav, Ashwin Nair, and Animi Goutham an Electrical and Electronics Engineering and mechanical engineering graduates with deep expertise in embedded systems, aerospace design, power systems, battery technology, propulsion, and geospatial technologies—AccelUAV was born with a bold vision: to indigenously build UAVs and aerial robotics for India’s non-defense and emerging defense-tech sectors, with a primary focus on the geospatial industry. Our Journey and Technological InnovationAt a time when India’s geospatial mapping sector heavily depended on Chinese drones like the DJI Phantom 4 Pro—limited by low endurance, lack of PPK (Post-Processing Kinematic) GNSS capabilities, and outdated battery tech—AccelUAV introduced ACE-2, a multirotor quadcopter under the “Small” category. Designed with Indian conditions in mind, ACE-2 offered over 45 minutes of flight time and Lithium-ion based power systems, bringing reliability, longer lifecycle, and operational economy to drone-based mapping. To validate the platform and align with our mission of ecosystem development, we partnered with RSI Softech India Pvt. Ltd., a leader in the Indian geospatial domain. Together, we executed government and private mapping projects, delivering significant value via our Drone-as-a-Service (DaaS) model. By 2021, we had already clocked ₹43 lakhs in revenue.Advancing Large-Scale MappingAs a part of the Government of India’s flagship SVAMITVA project, which aimed to map 3.2 lakh villages across 68,000 sq.km, AccelUAV developed the ACE-4 VTOL platform in 2022. This runway-independent hybrid drone combines the lift of fixed wings with the precision of multirotor, capable of covering 15 sq.km per flight, reaching altitudes of 3,000 meters, and delivering 200 km range.Over the course of 3 years (2021–2024), AccelUAV generated ₹4.48 crore in revenue through its DaaS operations, mapping 12,000+ sq.km across 44+ projects and establishing itself as a benchmark in endurance, area coverage, and mapping accuracy.Cutting-Edge Payload Innovation• First in India to integrate a 5-angle oblique camera system in 2022 for high-accuracy 3D digital twins with 8 sq.km per flight coverage, completing the Jabalpur Smart City Project (290 sq.km).• First Indian company to deploy a 61 MP full-frame camera on a VTOL platform, enabling ultra-high-resolution imagery for APSSLR (Large-Scale Mapping) and EMPEDA (Aquaculture Mapping).Strategic Collaborations & Defense IntegrationAccelUAV has worked with reputed defense organizations such as Unistring Tech Solutions and Zen Technologies, supplying aerial target platforms and ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance) solutions. Our ACE-4 VTOL platform has been deployed for Gujarat Police and CRPF, enhancing surveillance with high-resolution mapping capabilities.Recognitions & Milestones• 21 technical paper presentations, 3 national hackathon victories• Finalists in the prestigious IDEX ADITI Challenge for the Indian Air Force• Direct drone sales of 23 units across government and private sectors (Survey Mapping, ISR, and Aerial Target platforms)National Security Vision: Autonomous Systems for TomorrowWith rising drone threats and strategic technology gaps, AccelUAV is developing next-gen unmanned systems for India’s armed and paramilitary forces, with a mission to protect frontline lives and enhance battlefield decision-making:AccelUAV has also collaborated with defense companies such as Unistring Tech Solutions and Zen Technologies Limited, supplying aerial targets. The ACE-4 VTOL has been deployed for Gujarat Police for day and night surveillance long range drone and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for high resolution mapping to track and identify Naxal movements. Addressing emerging drone threats and the growing need for unmanned technologies, Accel UAV is developing advanced solutions for India’s armed forces, paramilitary forces, and national security agencies.1. Continuous Perimeter Surveillance: Tethered drones with autonomous surveillance systems for threat detection and tracking of land and aerial targets within a 5 km radius (Proof of Concept stage).2. Surveillance ISR Drones: ACE-4 VTOL platform with EO-IR payloads, offering 3-hour flight times and autonomous target tracking (TRL-6).3. Counter-UAS Systems: Solutions to neutralize hostile drones using kinetic precision strikes and pneumatic net capture, integrated with radar-based drone detection systems in partnership with Unistring Tech Solutions (TRL-5).4. Rapid Live Tactical Mapping: Real-time geospatial mapping for maritime, border, battlefield, and anti-Naxal surveillance (Prototype stage).5. Loitering Munitions: The Vinaashak platform for autonomous surface-to-air and air-to-surface operations to detect, track, and neutralize ground and aerial targets (TRL-5).
