Startup India is a flagship initiative of the Government of India launched on 16 January 2016 to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation across the country. The initiative aims to build a strong startup ecosystem by providing financial support, policy reforms, tax benefits, and easier regulatory compliance for eligible startups. A startup is generally recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) if it is incorporated as a Private Limited Company, Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), or Registered Partnership Firm, is less than ten years old from the date of incorporation, has an annual turnover not exceeding ₹100 crore in any financial year, and is working towards innovation, development, or improvement of products, services, or processes, or has a scalable business model with the potential to generate employment and create wealth. The Startup India initiative offers several benefits to recognized startups. These include DPIIT recognition, self-certification under selected labour and environmental laws, eligibility for certain tax benefits subject to applicable conditions, easier participation in government procurement, support for intellectual property rights through reduced patent and trademark filing fees, access to funding opportunities, incubation support, mentorship, networking, and various government schemes designed to encourage business growth.
