AgriRain is a precision irrigation systems company which deals with hosereel irrigators. Hosereel is an irrigation system that provides measured irrigation which has water use efficiency of 75-80%. Keeping in view the irrigation requirements of small and marginal farmers of rainfed and dryland areas, AgriRain came out with a novel business innovation. The business innovation, “Irrigation as a Service (IaaS)” provides hassle free, pay per use, mobile, cost effective and on demand irrigation at the farm gate as a complete irrigation package. This is driven by a water entrepreneur (operator) who owns the machine by the end of 3 years and creates a market in his region. The irrigation demand is assessed in advance for each farm and irrigation schedules are prepared using state-of-the-art-technology from IT industry and agri-domain, “Jal Suvidha”. Each farmer is assured with two irrigations, one pre-sowing and one or two lifesaving irrigations at affordable prices. Number of litres of water is measured using flow meters which will provide accurate measurement of irrigation. Thus, right amount of water is given at the right stage to protect the crop and optimize yield. The per litre cost of irrigation is 1.87 paise factoring only operational expenses.
