Alma Global Fashion LLP is an Indian startup making design-led, plant-based handbags using Banofi® banana leather — crafted from upcycled banana crop waste. The bags are handmade in India and designed with a signature asymmetrical arc silhouette inspired by Zaha Hadid's architecture. Product & Price: The debut collection "The Arc" features 7 bag styles (crossbodies, totes, clutches) in tan, olive green, black, and tawny brown, priced at INR 12,000–35,000 — targeting the accessible luxury segment. Why it stands out: Unlike most "vegan" brands that use plastic-based PU leather, Alma uses Banofi® — a crop-waste material that produces 90% less carbon emissions, 95% less water usage, and zero toxic waste compared to animal leather. It holds certifications from PETA, USDA Biobased, CA Prop 65, and REACH. Traction: Won the PETA UK Vegan Fashion Awards 2025 (Best Vegan Bags) and raised ~USD 12.3k on Kickstarter with an average pledge of ~USD 256 before India launch. Go-to-market: DTC-first via Shopify, targeting top metros (Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, etc.), with selective boutique partnerships and pop-up events.
