Agriculture is the backbone of India. Almost 42% of people are employed in agriculture but only 15% contribution to the GDP. A farmer only gets a small % of the benefit in the supply chain - for example when watermelon is sold at Rs 30 per KG, the farmer's profit margin is hardly Rs 5-7 per KG and with the highest risk and retailer's contribution is highest (Rs 10-15 per KG) with the lowest risk. Each farmer can not retail crops and at the same time, if every farmer starts going to sell, it would be havoc on the street. To make it worse, there would be only one or two crops a farmer is able to sell. The idea being explored is to do multiple things at the farm in such a structure that part of the crops become inputs for others and make a cluster of farmers who work in sync to produce a system where they can sell multiple items to customers on regular basis. With this, at very low or no extra cost they can offer a basket of products to customers and multiple farmers can get involved and the overall income and happiness of farmers can be increased.
