CONCEPT NOTE OF ARUNDATI BANDHAKALA PROJECT Shri Brahmanand Mehar (BE Mechanical) and his brother Shri Achutanand Mehar belong to the weavers community and observed the plight of weavers living in their vicinity , community friends and relatives since their childhood. They have observed that the new generation is not adopting the weaving profession and the generation-old art of bandhej (Tie & dye) weaving is on the verge of extinction. If old weavers are not protected and the new generation is not encouraged to take up the profession, the survival of this age old art for long will be difficult. To uplift the life of weavers and overall development of the ancestral village, Meher brothers have taken up the concept of Weaver to Consumer to provide quality products to genuine customers and support the weavers. To establish Sambalpuri Ikkat, Brand Arundhati is starting a project conceptualizing to remove the shortcomings of the production, induct modern techniques of dyeing to support the traditional tie and dye art of dyeing and weaving and use modern techniques of retailing to support the marketing of sambalpur products. All these efforts will inculcate confidence of consumers in the traditional products and provide improved wages and recognition to the weavers. It will attract attract youth to the traditional art of bandhej weaving and provide large number of employment.
