Buta means motifs in Assamese. We at Buta, solely believe at the bond of roots. Buta is a venture fully owned and fueled by the spirit of farm to fashion. In the rural hinterlands of Assam, hand weaving has been a huge part of local population but the recent decrease in the demand of hand loom and traditionally weaved clothes has had a major impact on the livelihoods of the traditional weavers and has further reduced their socio-economic conditions. Therefore, we aim at encouraging and enhancing these weavers from the remote villages of Assam especially the women by reviving the handloom as well as their livelihoods. Buta proposes to promote local fashion of the land to a wider set of audiences from all over India and the world, while also training and empowering the traditional weavers into adapting to the modern design and technology. At Buta, we also have a vision to help grow weaving into an organized sector and create widespread awareness around the livelihoods of those attached to this industry. We believe in this way we can help revive and reinvent the hand loom and weaving sector in India and also provide for the livelihoods of those who seem to be losing their only sources of income.
