Frisho was started in 2020 by IIT MADRAS alumni with the aim to provide high quality chemical free, antibiotic free meat, fish and other sea food by producing and promoting sustainable environment friendly production techniques such as Re-circulating Aqua Culture. This technique uses 1/10th of the water compared to the traditional fish farm. We treat the water with UV, Ozone, ensuring a clean environment for the fish throughout its lifetime and removing the need to use antibiotics, growth hormones. While producing highest quality fish, the only residue is nutrient rich organic manure! Overfishing is one of the biggest environment hazard. Today's worldwide fishing fleet is estimated to be up to two-and-a-half times the capacity needed to catch what we actually need. This even increases the cost of production. About 4 million fishing vessels of all sizes now ply the oceans, many with increasing capacity and efficiencies to catch more fish. As pressure from fishing grows, the likelihood of damage to the structure and function of the ocean ecosystem increases. Overfishing has tripled in half a century and today one-third of the world's assessed fisheries are currently pushed beyond their biological limits. Overfishing puts more than one-third of all sharks, rays, and chimaeras at risk of extinction. Damage done by overfishing goes beyond the marine environment. Billions of people rely on fish for protein, and fishing is the principal livelihood for millions of people around the world. Moreover, as per Global Hunger index, India is placed 101st, out of a total of 116 countries. This is a deterioration from its last year’s rank (94). The fact that countries like Myanmar (71), Nepal (76), Bangladesh (76) and Pakistan (92) lie much ahead of India indicates the severity of the issue. Child wasting, stunting, undernourishment continue to be serious issues and highlight the need for focus on nutrition and food security. Our Motivation.. We observed that virtually all of the so-called ‘fresh’ prawns/fishes in the market, was far below the level of quality that we seafood lovers deserve. We couldn’t find many avenues where we are 100% sure that we are buying the fresh, hygienic, unadulterated, chemical-free meat and seafood in the market. We strongly believe that we don’t have to live on the coast of India to enjoy fresh seafood, and it’s everyone’s right to avail of organic, fresh, and chemical-free meat at affordable costs. We started by establishing a Re-circulating Aqua Culture System(RAS) in Hyderabad and started growing fish organically that is sustainable and environment friendly. We have established the supporting processes to handle these fishes to bring them to your doorstep and source the freshest prawns from our aquaculture farms in Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh
