About the companyOur Company has been incorporated as Chrogene Aarogyam Biotech Private limited under the companies Act, 2013. The company is focused in Research & Development in innovating healthcare products to address the unmet needs of both domestic and global population at large. It aims to achieve these by partnering with institutions of excellence and thereby leveraging the vast potential available. PURPOSE Problem: A need for a Point of care device for screening device of Sickle cell disease Solution: To come up with a Non-Invasive device for Point of Care screening which could be more affordable and accessible and we at CHROGENE are building this BUSINESS INPACT: Our business idea is addressing the societal issues related to health care, more towards addressing the most neglected chronic multi system disorder namely, the Sickle Cell Disease SCD, a genetic disorder due to point mutation wherein the normal RBC’s take a shape of a sickle cell leading to several clinical implications. The device under development is a non-invasive, point-of-care instrument, consisting of a LED probe with an associated sensor which identifies the sickle-cell disease SCD. The device is a self-contained, portable and is suitable for mass screening of tribal and rural population without affecting their routine work. There is no need to collect blood sample, making it a safe and easy to operate device at POC. There is no biological or chemical reagents which makes the device affordable, less turn around time and environmental friendly also. We intend to go with B-to-B model. THE POSITIVITY OUR PRODUCTWILL CREATE FOR OURPLANET: Screening of the sickle cell disease (SCD) by non-invasive method in the population where the disease is highly prevalent is the main objective of this project. The epidemiological report states that millions of people are affected by SCD worldwide mainly in sub-Saharan Africa, central India, western and southern parts of India and eastern Brazil. It is of growing importance in the global health context specially affecting the rural and tribal community in a developing country like India. Six million children are born with SCD or sickle cell trait every year. Up to 90% of new born with SCD will die of this disease if left undiagnosed. According to the Census of India in 2011, the tribal population of India is 8.6 per cent of the total population which is about 67.8 million people. The device has been designed for the Point of care screening and more particularly the technology or the innovation which goes into the building the device. The principle involved in the device is very rationale. Having understood the need for a better screening tool than the existing technologies which are mostly invasive at POC or lab based and expensive. Ideation towards this concept took shape after lots of trial and error. The technology used here is Sensor based NON-Invasive inexpensive and a convenient screening platform. The low-cost and simplicity of this optical based technology could offer significant benefits to healthcare (e.g. in primary care accurate and simple-to-use screening Further to this, there has been the health policy in place put forth in 2023 by Indian government for sickle cell eradication by 2047.Adopting this platform under development would definitely prove to a better option for conducting a mass screening program at POC.
