Respected sir Ravi Shankar Prasad Minister of Law & Justice and Electronics & Information Technology Government of India Empowerment and participation of women in India’s development and building a brighter future our society is a fundamental philosophy of our government. A reflection of this can be seen in how the Digital India campaign has focused on not only enabling access for women, but also tapping into their entrepreneurial drive. This approach goes beyond participation and supports women to emerge as change agents in their families and communities. I am excited to share with you all story of yet another unique and much needed entrepreneurial and social initiative started by CSCs. ‘Stree Swabhiman’ initiative for women’s health and hygiene strives to create a sustainable model for providing affordable and accessible sanitary products to adolescent girls and women. Apart from access, the initiative is driven by awareness and outreach by the Village Level Entrepreneurs to effect behaviour change towards the issue of menstrual hygiene in the community. The Stree Swabhiman initiative strives to address this issue of access and awareness in the community. The VLEs who have set up sanitary napkin manufacturing units under the initiative are actively promoting menstrual hygiene through awareness drive to dispel the taboos and myths surrounding menstruation. I hope more VLEs would join this unique initiative and help in reducing the gender divide with respect to participation in the development processes. I wish this initiative of CSC a grand success.
