We have registered a healthcare based startup to develop a thermography based early breast cancer screening system with tumor parameter estimation under the mentorship of Dr. Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor, ECED, IIITA. The existing gold standard diagnostic technique-mammography may not be suitable for: (1) screening in a low-resource setting, (2) an asymptomatic female population, and (3) evaluating dense breasts (younger women). In low and middle-income countries like India, a system for early screening and monitoring is needed at the facility, community, and national levels. Our case study got published in IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging (Impact factor-12.02) and another paper on the thermal analysis of breast cancer patients is published in Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Springer) in Artificial Intelligence over Infrared Images for Medical Applications Conference, AIIIMA2022. We also intend to develop cloud-based classification through thermal, fractal, statistical features analysis, and patient characteristics with high sensitivity. Based on real-time screening, monitoring, and recommendation by a panel of oncologists and radiologists, the subsequent step will be the follow-up of the treatment of patients. After training primary healthcare providers, we will be able to establish an efficient system for early screening, diagnosis, and treatment follow-up. The inverse estimation of tumor size and location based on the patient-specific breast model (to be created by using MR images in DICOM format) will optimize the static and dynamic thermography for correlation with findings of mammography/ultrasound/MRI.
