identify.bio is a computational pathology company that uses AI to make faster and more accurate diagnoses of cancer. When a patient has a tumor, the first course of action is to perform a biopsy to remove the tumor and prevent its further growth and spread within the body. Once it has been removed, the tumor tissue is processed and examined under a microscope by a pathologist. At this time the pathologist will determine whether the tumor is malignant or benign. If the patient does have cancer, the type, stage and speed with which it is spreading must be determined by a pathologist. Reaching this diagnosis is a complex, tedious process and often results in over and misdiagnosis due to the intricacies, subjectiveness and time pressure on the pathologist. In order to do so, identify.bio is parallelly working on 2 products that will help pathology labs enable digital workflows in their organizations. Our cloud-native Whole Slide Imaging Viewer, cloudPATH has the ability to read and render Whole Slide Images captured from all leading slide scanners available today. Once built, this viewer can be scaled to be used by pathologists from around the world. cloudPATH enables pathology labs to i. Enable remote sign out of cases ii. Seek expert opinions from across the world rather than being restricted to those in local geography iii. Better track and progress made by pathologists and subsequently optimize their day to day operations. While the viewer will allow the pathologists to view the images, tremendous value will added through the use of Deep Learning AI algorithms that will automate many of the tasks that pathologists perform today. Our first AI is a Pap Smear automation tool which will significantly reduce the workload for pathologists working on Pap Smears. The AI will go through all the Pap Smear samples collected by a lab and pre-screen for any anomalies. The AI will flag slides with anomalies for human review. Hence the pathologist will only have to review a small subset of the slides and within each slide, they would only review specific regions of interest. Once this algorithm is built, the company would go on to create various others for different diagnostic tests and anatomical regions.
