Tourism potential will grow exponentially as such fast sea transport is not available on Indian Peninsula. 2. Employment potential of about few hundred directly and few thousand indirectly initially, will increase tenfold in a decade. 3. Savings of millions of liters of diesel fuel, and environmental and economic benefits. 4. The Carbon footprint of water transport is only 15% of that of road transport. 5. Time (man-days) saving and business growth for the people of the two districts. Objective -To provide an eco friendly rapid transport system using natural waterway (across the Gulf of Kutch) opening up a new tourist vista to the KUTCH region. The 1600 Kms of coastline of Gujarat remains unused for passenger traffic . Project- The project in phase one envisages: 1) Use of two Catamarans /Trimarines, initially for plying across Gulf of Kutch- between Okha - Mandvi & Jamnagar-Mundra. 2) Improvement of infrastructure at Okha, Mandvi, Mundra and Jamnagar ports. The customers for these transport services will be of three kinds.. (1) Tourists, will be able to plan a round trip visit, save almost two days, and avoid night travel. They will also enjoy the novelty of comfortable, high-speed sea travel. (2) Traders/Salespersons will conveniently return home same day. (3) Fishermen and seasonal laborers will get a faster and shorter journey to work-site. Milestones on our Journey so far. 2008-10 : Study and finalization of the Kutch Sagar Setu concept. Water depth available at Mandvi = 1.6 to 2.0 metres 2010-12 : Presentation to Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB). EoI issued, initial 6 responses received. Dwarka Kutchh Ferries & Tourism Pvt Ltd incorporated. 2013-14 : MoU with Govt of Gujarat(Tourism) Vibrant Gujarat 2013 GMB gave In principle approval to Kutch Sagar Setu – for Okha, Mandvi, Jamnagar & Mundra. 2015 : Ministry of Shipping- Govt. of India - issued EoI for Ferry services all over Indian coast. Dwarka Kutchh Ferries was short-listed. PROOF OF CONCEPT was established by.. 2015-16 : Dwarka Kutchh Ferries raised finance - mobilized a fast, aluminium Passenger vessel on Time Charter from Singapore obtained license from DG Shipping and operated daily two round trips between Okha - Mandvi, with excellent Eco-friendly Passenger terminals, at both Okha and Mandvi. On-line booking system inaugurated by Vice-Chairman Gujarat Maritime Board. Marketing campaign by all types of Media was successful. Time Charter had to be abruptly terminated after 25 trips carrying about 2500 passengers, as the Managers appointed by both Owners failed in various commitments, putting Passenger safety and reputation of Dwarka Kutchh Ferries at risk. 2016-17 : By popular demand, Ferry services were resumed with slow, old but spacious Aluminium boat from Mumbai - operated continuously for 150 days, 286 trips, 12500 passengers. Only one round trip a day was feasible due to the low water level at Mandvi port, depth having further reduced to 0.3 metre. 2017-18 & onwards, till date: Efforts continue for getting the Mandvi port upgradation to happen (without which the service is not workable) and for Finance to build suitable boats under "Make in India". Goodwill through Social Media and other means is continuously maintained. 2020 : Fresh EOI issued by Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways - Govt of India. Dwarka Kutchh Ferries have shown keen interest and AWAIT FINAL DIRECTION FROM GOVT. Recognition to Kutch Sagar Setu project. 2010 : Economic Times "Power of Ideas" competition- our project was on Final short-list. 2011 : Vadodara Innovation Council 2015 : Institute of Marine Engineers (India)- Gujarat Chapter. 2017 : Rotary Club of Kutch(RID3051) - Award for Excellent Benefits to society, and by innumerable Local Leaders, senior members of the Administration, professional Mariners, simple tourists and travelers.
