Our startup is pioneering the production and commercialization of nanocellulose - a next-generation, biodegradable, and high-strength biomaterial with applications across biomedical, packaging, and industrial sectors. What sets our model apart is the sustainable sourcing of nanocellulose from indigenous rice straw, cultivated through natural farming practices and Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITKs) in tribal regions of India, beginning with West Bengal. India generates over 100 million tonnes of rice straw annually, much of which is burned, contributing to severe environmental pollution. We aim to convert this agricultural residue into a high-value biomaterial, establishing decentralized, eco-friendly nanocellulose extraction units. Our process leverages low-energy, green chemistry methods that minimize carbon emissions while producing materials capable of replacing plastics and synthetic polymers. Beyond technological innovation, our model embeds livelihood generation and rural entrepreneurship at its core. By reviving traditional rice cultivation systems, we secure a consistent and sustainable supply of raw material while ensuring higher income for tribal farmers through seed sovereignty, straw collection, and participation in local processing. Each stage - from cultivation to nanocellulose production - enhances rural value chains, employment, and community ownership. Through this convergence of biotechnology, circular economy, and inclusive development, our venture aims to position India as a global leader in green nanomaterials, demonstrating how high-impact innovation can emerge from grassroots, sustainable agriculture.
