The company is developing scalable, data-driven solutions that transform traditional spice plantations into measurable carbon-sequestering assets, while improving farmer incomes and ecological resilience. Operating initially in the Western Ghats, a globally recognized biodiversity hotspot and one of the world’s premier spice-producing regions, ECOVISTA integrates scientifically validated carbon sequestration models successfully into perennial, shade-grown spice crops such as cardamom and pepper. These crops are inherently suitable for long-term biomass and soil carbon storage, making them ideal for regenerative and climate-smart farming systems. The startup focuses on quantifying carbon storage in both above-ground biomass and soil, implementing regenerative practices, and enabling spice plantations to function as carbon farms. While cardamom and pepper are the initial focus, the model is designed to be crop-agnostic and expandable to a broader portfolio of spices cultivated across high-range plantation ecosystems. In the next phase, ECOVISTA plans to scale this model across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, and Pan India as well as overseas, creating a network of low-carbon spice plantations capable of generating verified environmental and economic value.
