At Native Tongue, we have embarked on a journey to bring the lesser-known ingredients of India into spotlight. A quick glance around a local super market, we noticed that “gourmet” equalled to “exotic” which further equalled to “imported”. While kiwi, balsamic vinegar, goji berries, Mexican paprika held a place of pride, the local specialties like Nagpur oranges, kokum, mango ginger, local chilies, were either restricted or unavailable in the mainstream market. We set out to develop an Indian ingredient-forward brand with a contemporary spin which will enable the agricultural jewels of India to find their rightful place in the “gourmet” category. I decided to launch a pilot of 5 flavours with our ingredient forward vision. We spent a year in product sampling through trade fair, flea markets around the city and the response was more than encouraging. We would be often sold out very quickly. Our concept was very well received with diverse audience across strata and age groups. We formalized the brand in 2019 under the branding Native Tongue with a moto of celebrating the diverse produce of India, one jar at a time.
