EQUINOCT, a joint venture of alumni of IIT Bombay and NIT Calicut*, provides science-based solutions for addressing the impacts of climate change and assisting communities, institutions and governments in disaster management and building climate resilience. Climate change and disaster risk reduction are closely linked. More extreme weather events in future are likely to increase the number and scale of disasters, increasing the vulnerability of communities, industries and businesses and impacting the livelihoods and economy. There is an urgent need to assess these vulnerabilities to come up with viable coping strategies for various sectors. The Disaster Management Act 2005, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and Paris Agreement provides a unique opportunity to address these challenges with a global perspective. EQUINOCT provides innovative design and modelling solutions to climate change imposed challenges through research, consultancy, training and education. We work in collaboration with communities, research institutions, voluntary organizations, industries and government. We develop state-of-the-art products, tools, models and decision support systems for impact based multi-hazard management and to address the challenges of climate change. EQUINOCT is a unique modelling venture that sources its questions, inputs and insights in partnership with communities towards building a climate-resilient society in the equinoctial regions.
