At the end of 2015, Global Wealth creation touched 250 trillion USD whilst the growth in wealth of emerging markets has been no less stunning. Since 2000 India and China have more than doubled their share of wealth to 10.5pc. In the next five years India will become the twelfth largest economy in the world by wealth. Given the young consumption driven demographic profile of India with 65 pc of the population under the age of 35, increasingly customer expectations are shifting from the traditional- high- touch- trust based model to independent-light touch-digitally empowered experience. With transformation in lifestyle being brought about by smart phones and internet penetration, the new digitally savvy consumers are pushing the frontiers to make their own investment decisions, collaborate and share investment ideas through social media platforms and with analytical tools at their disposal are equipping them with enough knowledge to challenge the realm of the portfolio managers. Rising wealth creation among rapidly growing and vast segment of the middle class needs automation, scalable and personalised solution. At least 40-60 pc of the mass affluent consumers are likely to be receptive to robo advisory as digital usage gets deeper. In India, Robo Advisory is still at a very nascent stage, presenting a Blue Ocean opportunity.
