FloraHide Leatherette Private Limited is an innovative material-technology startup focused on developing sustainable and eco-friendly leather alternatives for footwear, bags, fashion accessories, upholstery, automotive interiors, and other leather-dependent industries. The global leather industry supports a large manufacturing and export ecosystem. However, conventional natural leather production involves significant environmental challenges, including high water consumption, chemical-intensive processing, wastewater generation, solid waste, odour, and greenhouse-gas emissions. Variations in animal hides, limited raw-material availability, supply-chain fluctuations, and dependence on resource-intensive processing also create quality and cost challenges for manufacturers. FloraHide aims to address these issues by developing an environmentally responsible leather-like material that can offer consistent quality, scalable production, efficient material utilisation, and suitability for existing leather product manufacturing systems. The company’s objective is to reduce the environmental burden associated with conventional leather production while retaining the appearance, feel, flexibility, durability, and processability required by the industry. Through research, technology development, and collaboration with scientific and industrial institutions, FloraHide seeks to build a commercially viable Indian alternative-leather platform. The company envisions supporting manufacturers with sustainable materials, reducing dependence on conventional animal hides and imported alternatives, promoting circular manufacturing practices, and contributing to India’s growing sustainable materials and green manufacturing ecosystem.
