The Choudhari family have been the custodians of Makrana since the 17th century, with at least nine generations working to extract the stone and provide a living for the artisans who work it. Most notably, Fazal Ji played a humble part in supplying Makrana marble during the construction of the Taj Mahal. Later Bux Ji and his son Hussain Ji supplied marble for Victoria Memorial in Kolkata.In honour of our centuries-long connection with this precious stone, the Choudhari family is actively engaged in protecting its unique legacy. The startup is now seeking exciting new avenues to bring the beauty and functionality of Makrana to the world. For this, three global D2C (Direct to Consumer) brands are been created to carry the family’s legacy and skills into the future:1. Qissa, which specialises in privately commissioned sculptures2. Shwet, which creates home mandir of exceptional standards; and 3. Ustaji, which focuses on handicrafts made by the master artisans of Makrana.
