Lidar (Light Detection and Ranging) is a remote sensing technology that uses laser light to measure distances and create detailed three-dimensional maps of objects and surfaces. Lidar works by emitting a pulsed laser beam, which reflects off a surface and returns to a sensor. By measuring the time, it takes for the laser light to bounce back, Lidar systems can calculate the distance to the object or surface. Lidar is commonly used in a range of applications, including surveying and mapping, environmental monitoring, autonomous vehicles, and robotics. For example, Lidar sensors can be mounted on drones or aircraft to create detailed 3D maps of the terrain for agriculture, mining, and construction applications. In autonomous vehicles, Lidar can be used to detect and avoid obstacles, and to help the vehicle navigate safely in various weather and lighting conditions.
