DEVELOPEMNT AND EVALUATION OF HERBAL FORMULATION CONTAINING EXTRACT OF BACOPA MONNIERA Recently, the attention in the use of herbal products hasgrown-upaffectedly in the world. It is now becoming exceedinglyapparent, that available psychotherapeutics does notproperly meet therapeutic demands of a vast majorityof patients with mental health problems, and thatherbal remedies remain to be the ultimate therapeutichope for many such patients in the western world andelsewhere. The vast majorities of currently availablepsychoactive drugs as herbal remedies today seem to bea reflection of such a situation. In the folklore of Indianmedicine, numerous herbal plants used conventionally asbrain or nerve tonics. One of the most popular of theseherbs is Bacopa monniera, a well-known memorybooster. The herb is also used in the treatment of neurological disorders due to its Sedative and Tranquillizing Properties, Cognition, Antidepressant and Antianxiety Effects, Anti-Epileptic Effects. As the plant has record of 100 years of safe use in Ayurvedic medicine it has no any side effect reported. Many research reports showed activity of Bacopa monniera extract as anxiolytic, anti-depressant and anti-epileptic. Hence, the objective of the present research investigation is to prepare dosage form containing extract of Bacopa monniera for management of depression, anxiety and epileptic conditions. The present investigation also aimed to prepare novel drug delivery system that rapidly release the herbal drug in the buccal cavity because buccal drug delivery system has various advantages like, avoids first pass metabolism of the herbal components, rapid onset of action and higher bioavailability of the herb. Anxiety, depression and epileptic attacks required rapid relief and on set of action, hence, objective of the research is to prepared fast mouth dissolving formulation-containing extract of Bacopa monniera.
