In their own words
There is a wide gap in the demand and supply of safe drinking water. The fact that nearly 680 million have no access to safe water (in India alone) is a matter of grave concern. Safe drinking water is a basic human requirement that is essential for good health, wellness and enables better education for children. This led us to conceive JanaJal (water for people) through a globally unique services focus. ‘Jana’ means people and ‘Jal means water. Our mission is to provide safe drinking water to every person at a nominal cost in a sustainable and consistent manner. Safe drinking water is a basic human requirement, which is essential for good health and subsequent education of the people, and can boost the GDP by up to 6% (Source: https://www.downtoearth.org.in/news/water/water-scarcity-may-cause-upto-6-loss-in-gdp-world-bank-53816). JanaJal keeps technological advancement, innovation and implementation to serve people, at its core. India has made a substantial investment in water ATMs that stand unutilized or massively underutilized. JanaJal’s technology begins with people and the clear reality that building water delivery technology in no way ensures its utilization. In exchange for placing a modest price on the water of INR 5 per liter (0.070 USD), JanaJal aggressively develops customer relationships recommending containers that work with our systems, the broadest range of transaction options and account maintenance across the industry. We follow a technology-agnostic approach towards the use of water treatment technologies to solve different water-related issues thereby ensuring the highest level of water conservation at all times. Every water ATM installed is custom built from the water treatment technology, capacity and operating format to suit the specific environment which it is intended to operate in. Consumers can transact using the JanaJal Mobile App which allows for seamless digital transactions using all forms of digital payment platforms including 122 e-wallets in India. All water ATMs provide real-time access to qualitative (TDS level, temperature, and pH) and quantitative (litres of water dispensed per day and revenue collection) data through IoT based controllers connected to secure cloud servers. The IoT controllers are globally unique and IP is owned by the company. To demonstrate customer-responsive sustainable utilization of water ATMs, JanaJal has also developed the WOW (Water on Wheels) that is a unique Electric Vehicle (EV) for enabling last-meter delivery of safe water to the doorstep of households. JanaJal WOW was recently recognized as an innovation by the Ministry of Jal Shakti (Water Ministry) in India and is likely to play a role in the Government of India’s vision and mission of making safe water available to every citizen by 2024. Our focus lies on extending services through a consumer-centric approach, hence the company focused on innovation to build the IT backbone for remote management and supervision of all decentralized water treatment infrastructure as well as the WOW which is an EV and completely aligned with the global electric vehicle revolution taking place. To enhance scale and identify serious operating partners among the many organizations that were simply selling or building hardware, the company is now offering its technology backbone (during the past 6 months) to stake-holders from public and private sector for management of existing water treatment plants that they have installed over the past couple of decades and are either shut down or not operational due to want of operational expertise and efficiency. National, state, and local Indian governments find themselves plagued by lack of knowledge about their own citizens’ access to water. The untenability of this reality resulted in Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi committing to piping water to the entire citizenry through the Har Ghar Jal initiative. The data that forms the basis for this commitment is out-of-date and not cost-effectively updatable. JanaJal’s alternative uses the range of new technologies to form a completely customer-responsive set of alternatives. The IOT controllers and centralized remote monitoring and supervision not only help in reducing O&M costs but also ensure 24x7 water dispensing through real-time monitoring. In addition to responding to shifts in population and demand by simply rerouting WOWs, this has allowed the company to demonstrate preventive and predictive maintenance practices versus the typical post-breakdown maintenance processes that have traditionally plagued the water sector. All the stakeholders can also view the data in real-time through online dashboard access and the mobile app. This helps in providing fully managed service contracts.
