Today’s kids know Iron Man, K-pop, Barbie and Labubu, but very few know Indian cultural characters and stories. Most modern toys are plastic-heavy, culturally generic and disconnected from India’s own heritage. Kathputli Toys is trying to solve this gap by building modern toys, cultural IPs, animated stories, books, collectibles, merchandise and immersive shows inspired by Indian art, folklore, tourism and craft, starting with Rajasthan. Our startup follows an IP-led model where one character does not remain just a toy. It can become a story, an animation, a collectible, a tourism experience, or part of a larger AVGCXR universe. We aim to use AI, technology, animation and immersive media to bring Indian stories to the next generation in a modern and engaging way. Kathputli Toys works with sustainable materials like wood and textiles and aims to support local artisans, the Bhat community and Rajasthani women artisans. We also want to promote authentic, GI-tagged craft and take India’s traditional stories from local to global through a Made in India cultural toy universe. Paris owns fashion. Silicon Valley owns technology. India already has the art, stories, music and colour. It is time for India to become a storytelling and creative capital of the world. Kathputli is our way of working towards that vision.
