Kuil Bioextracts Pvt Ltd is a bioentrepreneurship venture primarily established to focus on generating renewable forms of high quality raw material of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) for various industries by cultivation and conservation of MAPs indigenous to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) - a region in Himalayan biodiversity hotspot, developing solutions and value-added commercial products using these bioresources and creating sustainable employment and livelihood opportunities for educated youth and forest-dwellers respectively. MAPs are botanicals that benefit humans directly or indirectly by providing bioactive principles, aromatic/fragrant compounds, essential oils, spices, colorants/dyes, Cosmeceuticals, Pharmaceuticals, Nutraceuticals and Biocides while playing an important and valuable role in economic, socio-cultural and ecological aspects of human communities. Given the ever increasing demand of natural resources raw material in Pharma, Flood, Perfumery and Cosmetic industry, collectors and forest-dwellers have resorted to destructive methods of collection of MAPs from wild. Due to malpractice and illegal ways of sourcing these MAPs and Non-Timber Forest Produce (NTFP) from the forests of J&K, the population of many MAPs is declining at an alarming rate while some MAPs have reached to the verge of extinction resulting in shortage of supply of genuine raw material. Although, many MAPs are largely cultivated by contract farmers for many industries, which are utilised by these industries to formulate and develop various commercial products in India, but the concept is either non-existent or in its infancy in J&K. Therefore, the need for renewable sources of industrial products as well as the need to protect plant biodiversity creates an opportunity to produce such crops to generate an uninterrupted supply of raw materials.
