Maharashtra Silk Association is Section 8 Company registered as a Non-Profit Organization (NPO) under section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 with its head office at Nagpur. The company is closely working with the stakeholders in the Silk Value Chain viz. farmers, reelers, twisters, weavers, textile industry, middlemen, traders, exporters and importantly Government agencies. Silk cocoon production by sericulture farmers is primary activity in the state of Maharashtra. Other stakeholders in the value chain are not yet evolved to the extent required. The organization is primarily working on understanding the challenges faced by various stakeholders in Silk Value Chain in Maharashtra, working towards providing actionable recommendations for the sustainable growth of the industry in the state of Maharashtra which will help create a million jobs in 5 years (Year: 2025-30) while addressing the challenges faced by the stakeholders. More specifically, MSA aims to: • Identify the specific challenges faced by both new and existing sericulture farmers in Maharashtra • Analyse the root causes of these challenges and its impact on the overall industry • Propose practical solutions to overcome these challenges using new age technologies including IoT, AI, ML and improve the livelihoods of sericulture farmers • Inform policymakers and government agencies about the critical issues affecting the sericulture sector in Maharashtra • Advocate and partner with government for the implementation of the proposed solutions to foster the growth and development of the silk industry in Maharashtra.
