The banyan tree is a national tree of India. But none of the government of private entity has taken any initiative to plant this majestic tree on a massive scale. It is the desperate need of the hour. The existing banyan trees are on the decline because of various reasons which include road widening. Banyan trees are great water harvesting machines. There is a huge source of groundwater beneath them. Their roots go very deep up to 200 to 300 meters and wide as well. Their roots find water from anywhere. Banyan trees are really important for our rivers, mountains, and villages. The Banyan trees on the river bank have a high moisture level. The water retention is high there. There are many health benefits of a Banyan tree. The banyan tree is intensely worshiped and honoured in India. It is known for its ability to survive and grow for centuries. Besides, it holds a significant place in Hindu mythology. In fact, it is also believed that Buddha achieved enlightenment while sitting under a Banyan tree. Many species of birds prefer banyan trees since they can feed on their fruits. The social life in India’s villages (Choupal) used to be under huge Banyan trees. MBB Environment Foundation is committed to the focused efforts to bring back the banyan trees in India. We at MISSION BILLION BANYAN are planning for an inaugural program for this mission of planting one billion banyan trees in the next 10 years of period throughout India. In that context we wish to introduce our mission to the honourable minister. We are planning for an inaugural program with 101 banyan tree plantation at 11 different locations in different states throughout the nation on a single day.
