MERRY AGRICULTURE PRIVATE LIMITED
Delhi, Delhi
In their own words
Indian smallholder farmers are, through no fault of their own, some of the poorest people on the planet. One of the main reasons for this poverty is that smallholders lack access to high-quality crop data. Poor access to data leads to poor decisions, which in turn result in poor crop yields and poor income. Merry is an Indian agri-tech company that provides free, fun and effective access to high-quality data for Indian smallholder farmers. Merry’s “secret sauce” is its focus on peer-to-peer advisory. Rather than distributing information from experts (which is expensive and inaccurate), Merry is built on the belief that farm data can be crowdsourced at scale, providing better information at a fraction of the cost of traditional advisory methods. Merry aims to monetize its business by advertising to the farmers that use the Merry app. Merry also intends to build a platform on which third parties can sell agriculture inputs to smallholder farmers (Merry will never engage in direct sales to farmers). Work will initially focus on working with smallholder cotton farmers, of which there are over 8 million in India.
