MORGEN DRIVES: RARE EARTH FREE E -DRIVESMORGEN Drive is an innovative high efficient drive system suitable for traction variable speed applications. This new drive system has the advantages of AC and DC drives and overcome their disadvantages namely brush maintenance in DC drives Permanent magnet in BLDC motors and low starting torque AC drives. The AC induction motor, invented in 1888, is the dominant architecture for electric motors today. Although it is an elegant concept for the mechanical era, it lacks intelligence and wastes energy. Using proven switched reluctance technology and advanced- power electronics, we developed the next generation smart motor which minimizes the amount of energy wasted by conventional electric motors while also maintaining a sustainable energy balance for future generations. The software-driven MORGEN SR Drive is capable of working at optimum efficiency over a wide range of operating speeds and torque loads, thus enabling any user to reduce carbon footprint via the Smart Motor System. The advanced software algorithm maintains optimum efficiency throughout speed range. SR Drives are infamous due to torque ripple caused due to salient pole rotor and stators. SR Drives are highly nonlinear in nature hence controlling these motor are very difficult. The MORGEN Software driven algorithm controls the current rather than voltage and maintains a constant dwell angle. The current controlled algorithm reduces the torque ripple and gives smooth operation throughout. The targeted customer for MORGEN SR Drives will be electric vehicle industry which can be extended to solar pump and HVAC application. From the test results it was observed that the MORGEN Drives showed a flat efficiency curve of above 87% which will be breakthrough in EV industry since the operating range of vehicle is the major concern today.
