Waste Disposal is a highly relevant issue nowadays, with the quantity of solid waste being generated is increasing with time. The waste formed is not treated properly and is often dumped into landfills or incinerated. This causes land pollution due to leaching and air pollution due to indiscriminate burning. Basically, current waste disposal methods have led to increased pollution. In addition to this problem, agricultural yields are plummeting due to decreased soil fertility. This idea provides a solution to these problems by incorporating the disposal and treatment of organic solid wastes and creating high quality solid and liquid compost.The method of composting is drum composting, wherein the organic solid waste is placed in vertical plastic drums and allowed to react. Aerobic reactions occur due to the conditions and bacteriological composition. Liquid compost trickles down and is collected at the bottom of the drum while the solid compost is left behind in the drum. The advantages of this method are: 1. The time required for composting is between 15 to 25 days, depending on the climatic conditions. This time frame is less than the time required for traditional composting methods which is 30 to 40 days. This ensures that we will have a greater production of compost. 2. The compost produced is of better quality and hence the farmers are getting a higher yield in their crops. 3. This method is environmentally friendly as its installation and operation does not pollute the environment with noxious gases or further solid wastes. Thus it can be installed very easily at the city outskirts or anywhere with sufficient amount of land.
