Nandi Valley Dairy Private Limited – Farmer to Family Nandi Valley Dairy Private Limited is a mobile application-based online milk supply venture with a vision to supply incredibly fresh, untouched by humans, untampered, organic farm fresh cow milk directly from farmer to the end-user. Despite the fact that India is the largest producer of milk in the world and that there is a huge market potential for milk throughout the year, realization of better share in consumer rupee has remained a distant dream for the producers. This can be mainly attributed to exploitative and monopolistic behavior of intermediaries who take advantage of rising prices without passing them to the farmers. Besides the menace of milk adulteration has made access to healthy, pure and nutritive produce a challenge to the consumers. Also time is a major constraint in today’s scenario which has paved way for the inception of online marketing systems. With this background, we as farmers decided that direct marketing of our milk to the consumers would not only assure quality supply to them but also ensure better returns to us (the producers). This prompted us to sow the seeds of Nandi Valley Dairy Pvt. Ltd. and our dairy farm is located in the pristine Nandi valley region of Bangalore Rural District, Karnataka. We envisage that this technology of online milk supply directly by the farmer has twin benefits of maximizing returns of dairy farmers and also satisfying consumers with quality product. A glimpse of the process at M/s Nandi Valley Dairy Private Limited We have stabilized the milk production process by adopting scientific, research-based practices at all levels viz. farm sanitization practices, customized feed regimen to cattle, use of only organic fodder, personalized and expert veterinary care to cattle, not using any synthetic substances to enhance milk production, milking in mechanized milking parlors where the milk flows straight from cow’s udder to chilling tanks, etc. Quality of milk is recorded twice everyday for milk fat levels, SNFs, contaminants, antibiotics etc. The company supplies farm-fresh, raw, organic milk in biologically safe and environment-friendly branded glass bottles within four hours of milking. Besides, part of the milk is also pasteurized, homogenized as per the preference of a section of consumers and delivered within four hours of completion of the process. A portion of milk is also set aside for curd and ghee making so as to also supply curd and ghee in their purest forms. The temperature of the milk is maintained below 4ºC till it reaches the consumer to avoid multiplication of bacteria. With sustainable production practices, the company has further developed systematic milk marketing channel for better price realization by the farmer.
