INTRODUCTION Our company is into the business of Cultivation of Cordyceps militaris on artificial substrate is gaining much popularity now days due to its immense medicinal and salutiferous qualities. . Cordyceps militaris also known as caterpillar fungus is an entomopathogenic fungus with potential therapeutic values in the traditional oriental system of medicine. Cordyceps militaris has been a foundation in combating numerous health problems with innumerable far-reaching therapeutic effects. Cordyceps- M mushrooms have many names like Himalayan Viagra, Yarsagumba, Caterpillar Fungus, Keeda Jadi, etc. There are around 400 different species of Cordyceps, but those most commonly used in medicine tend to be Cordyceps Sinesis and Cordyceps Militaris. Cordyceps militaris is a species of fungus that belongs to the Cordycipitaceae family. It is known for its medicinal properties and has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine. The fungus infects and grows inside the larvae of insects and eventually replaces the host tissue. Cordyceps militaris belongs to the phylum Ascomycota classified in the order Hypocreales, as spores are produced internally inside a sac called ascus. It is an entomopathogenic fungus having an annual appearance which often grows parasitically on lepidopteron larvae and pupae of insects and spiders. It normally inhabits on the surface of insects’ pupae in winters and leading to the formation of fruiting body in summers justifying its name as “winter-worm summer-grass”.
