India would dominate the world’s electric 2-wheeler (e2w) market. The need for higher domestic value addition (DVA) mandated by government, requires vehicle OEMs to use India-made components in their vehicles. Moreover, locally made components ensure more robust supply chain, ensure high quality and opportunity to customize products based on OEMs. Usually, these converters require specific design and manufacturing skills, which is yet not well established locally. Further, all of the existing products are based on Si MOSFETs. However, the trend is pointing towards use of wide bandgap devices (such as GaN and SiC). This requires significant R&D investment for existing manufacturers, to shift to this new technology. Thus, there is an opportunity for NXPEC technologies to establish itself as an advanced, high-tech and robust EV components manufacturer. NXPEC Technologies would be launching the Si-charger product by the end of Q4 2024. These chargers would match the high quality and performance of currently imported product, at an affordable price.The main advantage of this product would be its design and manufacturing in India, which together will allow for fast modifications of its design, thus making it less dependent on imported supply chain. The flagship product which would be launched by mid-2025 will be a wide bandgap (WBG) based on-board charger. These devices have the potential to revolutionized electric 2-wheeler industry due to their significant advantages in efficiency and performance over traditional silicon-based components. e2w are ideal candidates for GaN integration due to their need for compact and efficient power conversion systems that can operate effectively in India's diverse and challenging driving conditions. The implementation of GaN devices in these vehicles can lead to enhanced performance, longer battery life, and overall better energy management.
