Glaucoma is the second leading cause of preventable blindness worldwide. It is progressive, asymptomatic disease of optic nerve associated with a vision loss. According to Glaucoma Society of India, 12 million people are affected by Glaucoma 12.8 of total cases of blindness . About 50 of Glaucoma patients go undetectable until they lose substantial vision and suffer from irreversible loss of visual function if untreated. In the normal eye, ciliary body procedure aqueous humour, it is drained at constant rate from the eye. In most types of glaucoma, the eye drainage system becomes clogged so the intraocular fluid cannot drain. As the fluid builds up, it causes pressure to build inside the eye. High pressure damages the sensitive optic nerve and results in vision loss Any blockage produced in the drainage system of the eye increases the intraocular pressure IOP of the eye. IOP of an eyeball is a key indicator for Glaucoma, although the advanced treatments are available for glaucoma patients, detection is the major problem. Devices those are available for the measurement of IOP records the IOP of patients over cornea. It requires expert clinician and anesthesia. In rural and remote areas hardly the aid of expert Ophthalmologist is available because of it the patients having elevated IOP remains undetected and only came to know after losing eyesight. There should be certain measures to detect the elevated IOP so that the further damage to patients eyesight can be avoided. Thus, there is a dire need for a cost-effective intraocular measurement device for early detection and management of glaucoma. A novel method is proposed to measure IOP using both applanation and indentation principles by Glaucoma screener. The measuring probe touches the eyelid instead of cornea that is trans-palpebral way. This device can be placed on closed eyelid by applying a sufficient pressure applanation force on the eyelid through a plunger with its tip. The calibrated scale is designed to indicate the IOP of patients eye. This medical device inbuilt with pressure sensors to detect Glaucoma at very early stage without anesthesia.
