The frequent drudgery of riding in traffic, searching for parking, seeking for the right products in endless aisles, queuing up for payment, and carrying heavy bags home is not how people, especially the upwardly mobile young generation wants to spend their time. And moreover, the young generation is not so sound in identification of the right food products in the market. Getting quality groceries and food product is a challenge. Ecommerce is the ease of purchasing products and services over the internet. It has given consumers access to a much wider range of products and prices than they would normally be able to find in their local stores. With eCommerce, consumers can do research before making a purchase. Ecommerce is a great way to meet the needs of consumers and helps companies to widen their target markets and stay current with the competition. For example, with eCommerce, consumers can access virtually any type of product, and the consumer can also look at product reviews and compare shops, all without leaving their homes. E-commerce provides an easy way to sell products to a large customer base. However, there is a lot of competition among multiple e-commerce sites. When users land on an e-commerce site, they expect to find what they are looking for quickly and easily. Also, users are not sure about the brands or the actual products they want to purchase. They have a very broad idea about what they want to buy. Many customers nowadays search for their products on Google rather than visiting specific e-commerce sites. They believe that Google will take them to the e-commerce sites that have their product. The purpose of any e-commerce website is to help customers narrow down their broad ideas and enable them to finalize the products they want to purchase. The challenge is also that each category will have a different set of facets to be displayed. Each category will have different facets and it needs to be designed properly so that customers can narrow down to their preferred products, irrespective of the category they are looking into. The takeaway from this is that categorization and feature listing of products should be taken care of. Misrepresentation of features can lead to incorrect search results. Another takeaway is that we need to provide multiple facets in the search results. For example, while displaying the list of all categories, we need to provide facets for a brand. As more and more facets are selected, we still need to show facets within the remaining products. Another problem is that we do not know what product the customer is searching for. A site that displays a huge list of products from different categories, such as groceries, food, dry fruits, provisional items etc.,, needs to be able to identify what the customer is searching for. A customer can be searching for some specific brand which can be in groceries, food, dry fruits, provisional items. The site should be able to identify whether the customer has input the author name or the book name. Identifying the input would help in increasing the relevance of the result set by increasing the precision of the search results. Most e-commerce sites provide search suggestions that include the category to help customers target the right category during their search.
