In India, religion is a way of life and an intrinsic element of the entire Indian culture. People are accustomed to going to sacred places and offer flowers, fruits, and other offerings to worship. In the national capital itself, tons of flower and other solid waste is discarded after use from major worshiping places, marriages, and hotels in water bodies, or otherwise dumped in landfills. Open disposition of solid waste releases foul smell and acts as a breeding ground for diseases. Similarly, clothes and other offerings are a major part of solid waste generated at places of worship, which are generally one-time-use. The bulk of solid waste when disposed of in water bodies, along with water pollution, directly impacts the aquatic life and degrades the natural fauna. Improper waste management of flowers also leads to serious human health issues caused by fungus and gases. To eliminate the root cause, and effective utilization strategy is the need of the hour. From making the citizens value the natural resources, and to ensuring clean and healthy recycling of solid waste as much possible, Pushpshala is moving forward in a mission mode to prepare 100% natural and environment-friendly floral based organic products. We term them Vedic Rituals which are floral recipes handcrafted with love and care. The product bases are entirely prepared through fresh flowers collected from sacred places of worship. From production, packaging to delivery, we aspire to make our value chain complete plastic and carbon-free. We recycle clothes offered and discarded from places of worship, and use them in local packaging and warehousing of products. Collectively working for the upliftment of the weakest section, we are working with local craftsmen to develop 'Vedic Rituals that Reduce Environmental Toxicity'. This is just a beginning and one of the best practice, Pushpshala is adopting to initiate a responsible and sustainable society.
