Organic farming is a phrase coined early in the 20th century in reaction to rapidly changing farming practicesto describe what other speciesuse, and used,to farm without synthetic chemicals. Organic farming continues to be developed by various organic agriculture organizations today. Organic farming can be defined as an integrated farming system that strives for sustainability, the enhancement of soil fertility and biological diversity whilst, with rare exceptions, prohibiting synthetic pesticides,antibiotics, syntheticfertilizers, genetically modified organisms,andgrowth hormones. Modern agriculture hasfocusedon chemicalsolutions to resolveproblems, resulting in asteadydecline in soil quality and poor nutrient availability. Growing numbers of farmers are seeing the benefits of improving soil health and moving to more sustainablefarming practices.This is resulting in improved yields,crop health and profits.
