1. Cultivation of essential oil bearing crops and distillation to generate Rural employment : Since one of the directors has access to the agricultural land at the foothills of Sinhagad – 35 km from the city of Pune, we decided to register ourselves under the Aroma Mission, CSIR - CIMAP sponsored by CSIR, New Delhi. Cultivation of essential oil bearing crops is not only the alternate cropping pattern, but will also help to generate rural employment. We have selected following crops for commercial cultivation : Lemongrass, Citronella, Vetiver, Geranium, Chamomile, Sweet Basil and scented rose. A small 200 kg distillation unit is also selected. We wish to create an excellent unit / work place where in apart from GMP, we will be able to provide geo-mapping of the product. This will be a pilot project and from here we will be able to distribute planting material to other farmers and similarly we will also find buyers for the produce – essential oils. Basic testing facilities for quality testing parameters will be established. 2.Promoting Millet Cultivation :This area is at the foothills of Sinhagad on Westernly wing. Originally this belt was under finger millet and Proso millet (Vari) cultivation. But most of the farmers got shifted to Paddy followed by Rabi Jowar where no support irrigation is available in the Valley funnel. The other side of the valley (Dara) where soils are black and irrigation is available, farmers cultivate wheat and vegetables in Rabi. We wish to revive the original cropping pattern in this area by promoting millets cultivation in Kharif and followed by essential oil bearing crops as an alternate cropping pattern. We also wish to start bee keeping with Apis cerena. 3. Agro Tourism with Homestay facility : 3a. Agro –Tourism : i. in Monsoon at the time of paddy transplantation, ii. Year round at the time of distillation of essential oil bearing crops except monsoon iii. Star gazing camps in night for children, iv. activity camps for children and creche children in a age group of 5 to 10 years. v. Holiday camps for yoga, physical fitness with orientation of adventure sports - basic camping, trails and rock climbing, identification of flora and fauna. 3b. Homestay facility : To start with we have our own place to offer. It can accommodate 12 people. We wish to create additional facilities for a weekend homestay for families and later convert this activity into a resort activity.
