Social Seva Initiatives is a Section 25 organisation based in Pune. Our work is project based and ranges across a few different fields. Specifically, we are interested in tackling niche issues within the social and environmental space. Currently, our organisation is primarily focused on the following initiatives: 1) Protoprint Initiative – Convert Waste plastic to 3d printing filament.Protoprint Initiative based in Pune, empowers urban waste pickers with the technology to convert waste plastic into 3D printer filament. The organization markets the filament globally as a price competitive, fair trade alternative to virgin filament while simultaneously using it locally to provide affordable 3D printing services to students and professionals in India. 2) Urban Air Quality Monitoring. UrbanAir is a non-profit initiative that uses distributed sensor networks to measure air pollution levels in Indian cities. The guiding mission behind the platform is to provide citizens, researchers and policy makers with unadulterated, high quality pollution data to make informed, data-driven decisions. 3) Wastu Initiative - Inclusive Plastic Waste Recycling. The Wastu Initiative (which gets its name from Waste Vastu, ie - Waste Items) is a collaborative effort with the Pune based waste picker co-operative SWaCH (www.swachcoop.com) to leverage low-cost, distributed production units at local dumpsites and sorting sheds. 4) Online Education for Under-served Regions. OpenShiksha is a free online educational platform designed to improve concept retention and learning outcomes for students in India. Our platform provides students, teachers, parents and administrators with an interface to assign, complete, evaluate and analyse student homework. develop and implement technology solutions, prioritizing community-lead design principles.
