In their own words

The Indian Textile Industry is one of the largest sectors of Indian Economy contributing well over 1/5th of the total industrial production of the country. It further occupies a unique position in terms of exports revenue, as it contributes around 27% of the total export earnings. The contribution of the industry in the area of employments is also noteworthy both in the Organised Sector as well as Unorganised Sector, as it is the 2nd largest employer after the agricultural sector in both Rural and Urban areas. The Textile Industry has a complex structure marked by the presence of the Large Scale Units as well as the Small scale units, some of which are independent or some of which are dependent for their survival on the Large Scale Units. Within the industry the Manufacturer and the Intermediate Processing Units occupies a pivotal and dominant position because of their large scale operations but the retailing is however still the weakest link. The Indian textile Industry has a complex structure. On one hand it is marked by the presence of large-scale production organised players, while on the other hand are the numerous small scale independent units. The middlemen in the textile fabric trade backed the growth of the small-scale independent unit. Traditionally textiles have had a long chain of distribution with various intermediaries like the Wholesalers, Distributors, Agents, etc. These intermediaries were the marketing arms of the mills and played a major role in maintaining contact with the final customer, the retailer. With the mills being manufacturing oriented, lost all contact with the final customer and the intermediary became all-powerful. The intermediaries in order to sustain their businesses resorted to buying from the independent units. Almost all the sectors of the industry have shown significant growth potentials and the sector in general has shown a 3.66 per cent growth over the last five years. Indian Textile Industry also occupies an important position in the world textile economy. It contributes about 12% to the world production of textile fibres and yarn including jute. It is the largest jute producer in the world and the second largest producer of silk (after China), third largest producer of cotton and cellulose fibre and the fifth largest producer of synthetic fibres / yarns. India’s rapidly growing population is the major driving force for development of domestic textile industry. Theoretically, every member of around 99mn strong Indian population is a potential consumer, depending on his/her purchasing power. The industry structure is complex. Segments of this industry span the organised and unorganised sector while weavers; artisans and farmers form the base of this industry. The industry itself is interwoven with various fibre categories like cotton, jute, wool, silk, man-made fibre and lastly, blended varieties of the same. Cotton farming, weaving and the garment sector are highly decentralised. In a broad manner we can categorize the industry into following major components : The Spinning Industry The Weaving & Knitting Industry The Indian Fabric Processing Industry The Garment Manufacturing Sector

The neighbourhood

This record carries no locality line, so the district is the finest ring we can place it in.

What we do not know

We have no liveness signal for any company on this site: no filings feed, no revenue, no check that the website still resolves. A record existing here means a record exists, not that a business is trading.
