Innovative Idea: Increasing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere, environmental and health hazards due to it and the requirement of irrigated land, fertile soil and sufficient solar light to grow plants, the only biological alternative to mitigate carbon dioxide, has led to the innovation of a new device called ALGFLOW. It is an inexpensive, simple, portable device that can be used for indoor cultivation of microalgae, and can be placed anywhere inside our homes and offices as an ornamental item. For this, the seeds of microalgae with different shades as well as the prototype of ALGFLOW device is available with us. The main body of the ALGFLOW device has been made with transparent plastic or glass to give it a beautiful look and stability. Microalgae can be cultivated in this device using the wastewater generated either from kitchen or RO water purifier. The water in this device needs to be changed once in 20 days. Besides, the device has proper arrangement of artificial illumination using LED lights and a rechargeable battery. The device can be equipped with automatic alarms for changing the water or replacing the LED bulbs using the AI technology. The microalgae have the ability to absorb carbon dioxide and emit oxygen by the process of photosynthesis at a rate greater than plants. However, they do not require soil for their growth. After proper growth, the biomass of cultivated microalgae may be used as biofertilizer in gardens or plant pots. The prototype has been awarded with Best Innovation Award by Institute Innovation Cell of HNB Garhwal University. Later, it has been granted Innovation Patent by Australian Government. Societal Benefits from the Innovation: ALGFLOW will help in purifying the air of houses with less or no ventilation by absorbing carbon dioxide and emitting oxygen. It will reduce the risk of diseases, such as respiratory diseases, hypoxea and depression etc. caused by the excess carbon dioxide and reduced oxygen concentration in air. Besides, this device will also be helpful in increasing the oxygen level of COVID patients residing in less ventilated houses. Moreover, the device will be helpful in avoiding the wastage of water from water purifiers and kitchens. Target customers: The device is new to the market. The individual living and working in metro cities, patients suffering from diseases caused by air pollution, people who want to contribute for making the environment clean, persons interested in decorating their homes. Employment generation: Employment will be created for manufacturing of the device, production of microalgae seeds.
