AgSri is focused on developing and expanding the potential of the Agricultural sector to ensure improved productivity, better incomes for farmers, better quality raw materials for industries and produce surplus for domestic consumption and export. The aim is to replace conventional farm practices with innovative and knowledge-intensive, employment-specific and production-oriented practices which take fewer resources but also result in more net income and profits to the farmers and the industry while reducing the footprint of present agricultural practices on the environment. Integral of this vision is that farming will no longer be regarded as a mere means of survival but rather as a business opportunity with all the possibilities that come with any other sustainable business. In a world obsessed with the approach of more inputs to increase production, AgSri’s work is directed at productivity. The aim is to reduce inputs and focus on more efficient usage of resources and consequently promote higher outputs and more inclusive growth. In that context, the company has been innovating, packaging, implementing and scaling farm-based technologies that are inherently farmer friendly and ecologically sustainable such as the Sustainable Sugarcane Initiative (SSI) and System of Rice Intensification (SRI), which have successfully demonstrated their potential to increase crop yields, reduce water wastage, save costs to farmers and also reduce chemical fertilizer use. Our approaches help increase rural employment and convert labour to more productive gains, while our crop and water management technologies impact soil fertility, save water and climate change without any extra investments. The challenge is to improve the productivity of land, water and labour – all at the same time, while improving the quality of ecosystem services. We call this approach “More with Less” and we see ourselves as catalysts that want to move Agriculture to this more sustainable theory.
