Medicines prepared from plant sources have provided the health needs of society since ancient times. India has a rich culture of use of plants in their day-to-day life for centuries. Since the past two decades interest and demand for traditional /herbal medicines have increased substantially increasing the global market for medicinal plants thus significantly increasing the economy. In this scenario safety quality and efficacy of herbal medicines has become important concern for health authorities and in society. The quality of raw materials of medicinal plants or plant products depends upon extrinsic factors that is Cultivation, Collection, Harvesting methods, storage, processing, environment etc. Unknowing or accidental microbial contamination during any production stage can result in deterioration in safety quality efficacy. Medicinal plants whether used for food ornamental purposes or cosmetics, promote humans' healthy state of mind & body well-being.It is time to develop a correct methodology of cultivation, insect management, and harvesting of medicinal plants with an integrated approach of Traditional and contemporary science which will give quality drugs. Interdisciplinary research protocols using the merits of Vrikshayurveda principles are the need of the hour in good cultivation practices. Vrikshayurveda is the science of plant life.
