Tenacious Bee Collective is a group of friends and nature lovers who came together with a mission to bring raw, unpasteurized Himalayan honey​ to honey lovers everywhere; while simultaneously working with scientists, apiarists, Beekeepers and farmers to revive dwindling bee populations in Himachal Pradesh. While beekeeping and honey gathering has been a traditional practice for hundreds of years, in more recent times the widespread use of pesticides in the state, coupled with the low minimum support price given to bee-keepers for their produce, has led to a sharp decline in both the population of bees and the number of bee-keepers pursuing this profession within the state; besides resulting in the production of somewhat dubious quality of honey. At Tenacious Bee Collective, we are working to address these problems by creating new, sustainable, avenues for revenue generation for bee-keepers and their extended communities; while simultaneously connecting them with a group of discerning urban well-wishers, who support their hard work and keep them going strong. Our project addresses the problem of dwindling Bees and Beekeepers from a wide variety of perspectives and through interdisciplinary action, in the process creating the possibilities to address many of the adverse economic and ecological realities of the region. It aims to develop a holistic, ecological and sustainable model around small-scale beekeeping, which could be adapted to a wide range of rural contexts, both mountainous, and otherwise. It is said that the future of beekeeping is not in one beekeeper with 50,000 hives; rather it is in 50,000 beekeepers keeping one hive each, practising the art holistically. It is our aim to promote and practice just this, starting with one village in Kangra.
