About us India, one of the fastest developing economy around the globe has set some pretty high benchmarks for education. No one is a stranger to the high cut-offs of IIT, NIT, and other institutes. Where on one hand there is no doubt that these are premier institutes take in the creamiest layer, the ones passing cut-offs with highest grades but still there exists the question whether judging a student solely on marks somewhat a flawed concept? The placement scene at these colleges is quiet same: 150 companies lined-up for 50 students. Thus creating a big gap in the supply-demand ratio. At the same time, students who didn’t get into the top institutes seldom get chance to appear for their dream companies or desired roles. Kaiz, a set of professionals from NIT Trichy who have come together to provide a platform to engineering students from all over India to participate in a competition which would analyze their performance and help them improve their stats during four years of engineering course. Every year around 15 lakh engineers, come out of the gates of engineering colleges with the dream of making it big. Out of these 15 lakh engineers, around 20 percent get a job, however, more often than not; it is below their skill set. The plump for top colleges has not been hidden from anyone. With top colleges becoming a bigger brand with each passing year, little attention is given to other colleges and especially to the students of the latter. This equals to lesser job opportunities after 4 years of equal hard work. Kaiz aims to remove this inequity by giving each and every job seeker a fair chance to present themselves to the recruiter. Analyzing the student crowd at various colleges and matching it with the recruitment trend, it is safe to say that there is more than one factor that drives placements. Among the top being companies preferring college brands to talent Often companies don’t visit colleges with the open mindset to recruit from each domain, i.e., restricting placement domain wise. College location was off the beaten track and hence company couldn’t visit. With more and more companies opting for the top-tier institute to hire candidates, many talented students from not-so-mainstream-colleges do not get a chance to display their skills or let alone appear for an interview. How would you feel, if you know that you can do the job with integrity and passion but you are not even asked to come for the interview? The discrimination is real and loud. Companies also do not have any option but to recruit from top colleges. They are not to be blamed for this inequity. We observed that it is cumbersome for companies to filter out candidates from non-mainstream colleges. The colleges are in remote location, hence travelling and whole process of selection causes financial, and huge time loss. Why would companies go over all this pain when a simple route can be followed? With changing attitude and times, focus on practical skills, knowledge application and general aptitude has risen. There is a call for altering the contemporary method used for recruitment within the industry. It is imperative that each and every student gets a chance to showcase his or her talent.
