The advancement of civilizations have always depended on our ability to master the resources namely metals. The metal market is a multi-billion dollars industry across the world, with Aluminium playing an important role in the advancement of the economy. Indian metal industry or foundries face a stiff competition from low cost and quality imports from countries like China. Our inability to provide quality in conjunction with low prices has affected the profitability and competitiveness of Small Scale and Medium Scale Enterprises. Our goal at Thermotronix Engineering Private Limited is to improve the competitiveness of indian foundries by driving down the cost of operations. Aluminium finished product manufacturing starts with the scrap, which is melted in a furnace followed by casting process, followed by fettling and machining operations to make the finished product. The melting operation constitutes around 80 to 85% of the cost in a foundry. The melting of the scrap is achieved by using different furnaces such as Electric Resistance, Pet Coke, Gas Fired and Oil Fired Furnace. Some of these furnaces like pet coke furnace cause excessive pollution and the workers face major health issues associated with the lungs and cancer. Gas fired furnaces are very cost intensive and burning of furnace oil has already been banned by Government of India. 90% of foundries use Electric Resistance Furnace, which is excellent for holding operation but ineffective for melting operation. The cost of operating these furnaces ranges from 7 to 15 Rs per Kg of melting Aluminium. The high cost of operation limits the innovation that can be implemented by foundries in order to increase their competitiveness. Moreover, India being an agricultural economy produces an abundance of agricultural waste, the disposal of which has become a grave concern due to pollution and economical concerns. Thermotronix has built a solution that solves both of these issues. The innovation at Thermotronix Engineering has lead to a furnace that works on agricultural waste, which has driven down the cost of operating furnace to 0.8 to 1.5 Rs per Kg of melting Aluminium. The furnace employs innovative features like primary and secondary heat utilization, fully automatic continuous operation and 70% faster melting as compared to Electric Resistance Furnaces. The pilot tests have revealed that the adoption of our furnace over Electric Resistance Furnace can result in massive savings of 2,40,000 Rs per month for a foundry that has the capacity of 1 Ton production per day. Thermotronix Furnace can result in facility upgradation and improved profitability due to a potential to merge ingot manufacturers and finished product manufacturers. The foundries will have the much needed fiscal space to do value addition into their final product. Due to less heath hazards, increased safety and organized workplace, the adoption of Thermotronix furnace can result in improved quality of life physically and financially. Utilization of agricultural waste can result in reduced pollution and improvement in financial state of the farming community.
