Uyiriyal Biotech private Limited, start up incorporated on December 2019 is currently incubated in VIT technology business incubator, Vellore. The main focus is to develp millet based probiotic foods for human and animal nutrition. Millets are well known for its dense nutrient contents and nutraceutical properties. However, millet based foods have low bioavailability of minerals due to the presence of some antinutritional factors. To address this the Research and Development activities of Uyiriyal focuses on isolating and including native microbial starters in millet processing inorder to reap fullest nutritional benefits from these nutricrop. The continuous R and D activities lead to the development of first product Koozh plus. The methodology adopted enables calcium and iron bioavailability from the substrates. Also the product mixture has beneficial lactic acid bacteria in adequate numbers which helps in maintaining gut health and imparts unique flavour to the product. This property positions Koozh plus as one among of the very few millet based probiotics in market and forms a alternative to dairy probiotics. Following product development, we have established manufacturing unit in Vellore by 2022 with a capacity of producing 18 litres/day. The product has been launched by November 2022 and marketed through retail markets in Vellore. We are looking for expanding the sales in Tier 1 cities of Tamilnadu. We are also constantly working on developing health drinks with foxtail and kodomillet. Details of team members of Uyiriyal Biotech Core Team Member 1: Dr. T. Geetha 1. Ph.D. (Microbiology) 2. Naganatha Suganthan 1. Ph.D. (Molecular Biology) 2. Expertise in recombinant protein production and development of immunodiagnostics assays. 3. Trained as a business professional in an agriculture and food-based incubation ecosystem. 4. Involved in start-up management, market assessment and fund raising. Core Team Member 3: Dr. N. Deepalaxmi 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (B.H.M.S.) 2. Practicing Homeopathy Physician, having nine years’ experience in providing treatment to various clinical conditions affecting all age groups. 3. Regularly practice recommendation of probiotic food products for many patients having gastro-intestinal complaints and have found them to be very effective in complementing the treatment along with medicines.
